All information received is confidential. All pieces of information are treated discretely and in such a way as to not draw attention. Creating false alerts is illegal; however submitting an alert that you are not quite sure about is not. We understand that sometimes you hear a rumor, and for that reason we have different selections in the alert form. If you are unsure about an alert tell us so, or select "unsure" from the box. This is still a valid alert and might provide a valuable piece of information that we can investigate. However, knowing something is false and telling us you are "sure" is illegal and should not be taken lightly. Posting or transmitting any unlawful, threatening, abusive, libelous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, profane or otherwise objectionable information of any kind, including without limitation any transmission constituting or encouraging conduct that would constitute a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any local, state, national or international law, including without limitation the United States export control laws and regulations and federal and state antitrust laws. Purposefully placing false alerts will be pursued and prosecuted

Why alerts are sent. Alerts are sent when you hear about, know about, or suspect a crime or an event that is happening or is about to happen. This could mean anything from being bullied all the way to someone thinking about bringing a gun to school. The main reason to send an alert is to stop the event from happening, but it also reduces liability from having to face legal charges for having information and not disclosing it. As the current law stands if you know about an event that is going to happen and you don't say anything then you are almost as guilty as the person who commited the crime.
